English Laundry’s 2013 barbershop-style eau de parfum: lavender, citrus and cedar over nutmeg, coriander and soft woods.
At a glance
Signature is a 2013 eau de parfum from English Laundry: a clean, barbershop-style blend of lavender, citrus and cedar over nutmeg and coriander, finished with sandalwood, vetiver, musk and amber.
It is still part of the brand’s range, and a Parfumo reviewer counts it among the English Laundry scents that turn up on discount racks.
Creation and context
English Laundry is a clothing label created by Manchester-born designer Christopher Wicks and launched in 2009. Its fragrance line began in 2010 with Arrogant, and its scents are produced and marketed by 3B International, which both Parfumo and the official English Laundry shop name as the company behind the line.
The official shop and Parfumo both date Signature to 2013. Fragrantica gives no exact year and places the launch in “the 2010s.” None of the three names a perfumer. The brand pitches it as a year-round scent that pays “homage to the powdery, vintage vibes of a traditional barbershop.” There is also a separate Signature pour Femme (2013, per Parfumo); this post covers Signature.
The composition
English Laundry has not published a formula. The notes below are the ones that the official shop, Fragrantica and Parfumo all list, in the same tiers.
Fragrantica classifies Signature as an oriental woody and lists woody, aromatic, powdery and lavender as its main accords; Parfumo’s community calls it woody-sweet, spicy and powdery.
Why it matters
Signature shares much of its note list with Arrogant, the brand’s 2010 debut: bergamot, cedar, lavender, coriander, sandalwood and amber appear in both. It reads as a drier, more classic version of the same idea, with nutmeg and vetiver taking it toward a traditional barbershop style rather than Arrogant’s sweeter lavender.
Parfumo lists Luna Rossa Sport and Le Male among the fragrances users find similar. Its reviewers describe it as a clean “laundry” scent, and one writes that it “quite literally smells like laundry day in a traditional British household,” which fits the brand name.
Reformulation and editions
Signature is sold as a 3.4 oz (100 ml) eau de parfum, with 2 ml vials on card, according to the official shop. No reformulation is documented. When Fragrance Help first listed it, distribution was limited.
Wearing it today
Expect a clean lavender-and-citrus opening, a light spicy heart and a soft powdery woody drydown. Parfumo users rate its longevity as modest, so reapply on long days.
It suits the office and everyday wear in any season. One Parfumo reviewer calls it “the ideal office scent” that “doesn’t polarize.”
