Fragrance Favorites
Beyoncé Knowles, the singer, songwriter and performer who first rose to fame with Destiny’s Child, has named three favorites that run from everyday comfort to classic French perfumery. One of them is not a perfume at all. Here is what each one is and how to try them yourself.
Favorite Fragrances
- Baby lotion
- True Star
- Fleur de Rocaille
About the Fragrances
Baby lotion is exactly what it sounds like: a soft, clean, powdery skin scent that many people find more comforting than any perfume. True Star is a 2004 release from Tommy Hilfiger, and Beyoncé was the face of its launch campaign. It is a light fruity floral with melon, citrus and aldehydes over honeysuckle and a soft musk base, and it has since been discontinued.
Fleur de Rocaille is a Caron fragrance from 1993, a powdery floral bouquet of gardenia, violet, lilac, lily of the valley and iris. It is not the same as Fleurs de Rocaille, with an s, an older Caron perfume from the 1930s that shares the name but not the formula. The soft, powdery thread running from baby lotion to Fleur de Rocaille is easy to hear.
Wearing It Yourself
Since True Star is discontinued, look for a sample or a well-stored bottle before paying a premium, and check the spelling carefully when shopping for Fleur de Rocaille. Wear each one on skin and notice how the opening compares with the drydown an hour or two later. Let this list point you somewhere new, then trust your own reaction.
Why it matters
Pairing a plain comfort scent with polished perfumes shows that a favorite does not need to be expensive. Use the common thread, here a soft, powdery cleanliness, to guide your own search.
