Dolce & Gabbana’s 2012 rosemary, cardamom and musk aquatic, the house’s first sport fragrance and the freshest of The One for Men line.
At a glance
The One Sport is a Dolce & Gabbana eau de toilette launched in 2012, the third fragrance in The One for Men line. It is a fresh aquatic: rosemary and watery notes over cardamom and sequoia, on a base of musk and patchouli.
Parfumo and FragranceReview.com credit it to Guillaume Flavigny of Givaudan. It was the house’s first sport fragrance and the lightest of The One for Men line. Its clear bottle with red accents set it apart on the counter from the amber-coloured original.
Creation and context
Fragrantica, Parfumo and FragranceReview.com all date the launch to 2012. Fragrantica describes it as the third fragrance of The One for Men line, after The One for Men (2008) and The One Gentleman (2010), and as lighter and fresher than both.
Fragrantica presents it as the house’s first move into sport fragrances, aimed at an active, outdoor lifestyle. According to Fragrantica, the model Adam Senn was the face of the campaign, photographed by Mariano Vivanco. IMDb also lists a 2012 short film titled Dolce & Gabbana The One Sport, the moving-image side of the same campaign.
Parfumo and FragranceReview.com both name Guillaume Flavigny, working at Givaudan, as the perfumer; Fragrantica gives no credit. Like the rest of the line, The One Sport was developed during the Procter & Gamble licence, which began in 2006.
The composition
Dolce & Gabbana has not published the formula. Fragrantica, Parfumo and FragranceReview.com give the same six notes, and the structure below follows them.
FragranceReview.com describes rosemary as the dominant opening note, sharp and almost medicinal, softened by the aquatic accord, with cardamom and sequoia giving the heart a warmer, woody turn. Parfumo’s users classify it as fresh-aquatic, and list its main accords as fresh, aquatic, synthetic, citrus and spicy. The cardamom is the thread that connects it to the original The One for Men, whose heart is also built on cardamom and ginger.
Why it matters
The One Sport shows the logic of a designer line at full stretch. The original was a warm, spiced tobacco woody; Gentleman softened it into lavender and vanilla; Sport kept the name and bottle but moved into fresh, aquatic territory, the style the house had not yet tried within the line.
It is also a clear example of how a sport edition works. The structure is short, the materials are few and transparent, and the fragrance is meant for daytime and warm weather rather than evening. That makes it a useful comparison piece for anyone learning how a house translates one name across very different styles. The pace is telling too: three fragrances in The One for Men line in four years, all under the same licence.
Reformulation and editions
Parfumo lists an after-shave lotion alongside the eau de toilette and credits the bottle design to Lutz Herrmann, the same designer it names for The One Gentleman. The bottle keeps the heavy square One flacon in clear glass, with a red atomiser collar and the word sport in red on the front.
No reformulation has been documented. Parfumo records Procter & Gamble and Metropolitan Cosmetics as its last marketers rather than a current one, and several resellers now list it as discontinued. The Procter & Gamble licence did not pass to Coty in 2015–16; Shiseido took it over in 2016, and Dolce & Gabbana has run its beauty business itself since January 2023.
Wearing it today
Expect a bright rosemary and water opening, a soft cardamom heart and a clean musky finish. Parfumo users give it low marks for longevity and sillage, so treat it as a light daytime fragrance and reapply as needed.
It suits summer, the gym bag and casual weekends. If you find a bottle, compare it with The One for Men to see how far the same name travels between editions; if you want something fresh but longer-lasting, look to the wider aquatic family. Because the base is only musk and patchouli, it layers easily under a citrus cologne or an unscented moisturiser, which can help it last a little longer on dry skin.
