01 — AT A GLANCE

At a glance

Bvlgari pour Homme Soir is a Bvlgari eau de toilette launched in 2006 as the evening edition of Bvlgari pour Homme. It is a soft tea and musk fragrance: Darjeeling tea over papyrus, on a base of amber and musk.

No perfumer is officially credited. It keeps the pour Homme bottle and the house’s tea signature, and makes both warmer and quieter.

02 — CREATION AND CONTEXT

Creation and context

Fragrantica, Parfumo and Basenotes all date Soir to 2006. None of the three names a perfumer, and Basenotes states that no perfumer is signed to it. The original pour Homme (1995/1996) was composed by Jacques Cavallier, and some Fragrantica reviewers assume he also wrote Soir, but that attribution is not documented.

Soir belongs to the tea line that runs through Bvlgari’s early fragrances. The house’s first scent, Jean-Claude Ellena’s Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert (1992), built a sheer cologne around green tea; pour Homme turned tea into something musky and powdery; and pour Homme Extrême (1999) took it in a greener, drier direction. Soir, as its name says, is the evening version, using Darjeeling black tea rather than green.

As the packaging shows, it kept the pour Homme flacon with its round, ringed cap, and changed the label to read SOIR, in a black box.

03 — THE COMPOSITION

The composition

Bvlgari has not published the formula. Fragrantica and Parfumo agree on the core; each adds one note.

Top — Darjeeling tea; Fragrantica adds bergamot.
Heart — papyrus, a dry, slightly smoky green-woody note.
Base — amber; Parfumo adds musk, and Basenotes reviewers describe white musk, amber and vetiver in the drydown.

The classifications differ in emphasis. Fragrantica calls it a woody floral musk, Parfumo fresh-woody, and Basenotes a green tea fragrance. All three point to the same thing: a transparent composition in which a dark tea note sits over dry papyrus and soft musk, without the powdery iris of the original pour Homme. One Basenotes reviewer calls it “a relaxed evening version of Bvlgari Pour Homme” and praises “a gorgeous, vegetal tea note” that “distinguishes it from the pack”.

04 — WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters

Soir is a useful example of a house building a family around one material. Across Thé Vert, pour Homme, Extrême and Soir, Bvlgari showed how tea could be sheer and transparent, musky and powdery, green and bracing, or dark and quiet.

It is also a reminder that an “evening” edition does not have to be heavier. Soir changes the tea from green to black and the mood from bright to muted, while staying in the same light concentration as the original. One Fragrantica reviewer calls it “the sophisticated linen shirt of my fragrance wardrobe”.

05 — REFORMULATION AND EDITIONS

Reformulation and editions

Soir was released as an eau de toilette, and Parfumo also lists a matching aftershave. It sits in the pour Homme family alongside the original, Extrême (1999) and a 2024 pour Homme eau de parfum by Cavallier. That eau de parfum, which Olfastory and Parfumo both describe with Darjeeling tea and ginger at the top and Ceylon tea and guaiac wood at the heart, also opens on Darjeeling tea, the note at the top of Soir; Olfastory and Bvlgari both present it as a woody musk, the same category Fragrantica gives Soir.

No reformulation has been documented in the sources reviewed here. Parfumo lists LVMH, Bvlgari’s parent group since 2011, as its current marketer. As with any long-running designer fragrance, check the batch code if you are comparing an older bottle with a current one.

06 — WEARING IT TODAY

Wearing it today

Expect a gentle black-tea opening, a dry papyrus heart and a soft amber and musk base close to the skin. Fragrantica reviewers praise its elegance but describe its projection and longevity as moderate, and Parfumo users rate both in the middle range.

Despite the name, Fragrantica reviewers recommend it for professional settings and year-round wear, and several call it suited to formal occasions. If you want more presence, compare it with the original pour Homme; if you like its tea, Thé Vert and pour Homme Extrême show the same idea in brighter form.
