What This Page Documents

The value is bibliographic: names and dates provide a starting point for exploring a body of fragrance work.

What It Does Not Establish

The concise list does not explain the exact creative role, note structures, concentrations, or formula changes. Those details require additional verified sources.

Why it matters

Perfumer archives are most trustworthy when they separate the documented credit list from details that still need verification.

  1. Janet,

Thank you for your patience with my reply, things are quite busy on my side getting the new counter installed.
Giorgio Red, or any fragrance really, did not change. Fragrance companies love to come out with flanker fragrances that are like sister fragrances but not entirely the same and specifically because newness in the industry is a huge thing but these fragrances are always plainly labeled differently.

The differences are that, possibly, you found it in another country and fell in love and now you are trying to find it in the U.S. and it will not happen. The U.S. has a different set of standards for what should and should not be allowed for fragrance production, causing fragrances between two different countries to be a little different. Sometimes it’s just a propellant in the fragrance that is different but sometimes entire ingredients are substituted.

In your case, I would say the element that has changed is probably you. A persons chemistry is half of any fragrance and that chemistry changes every 2 years or even more so if you move and change your water source, diet or medications. This day and age we are all taking medications that we didn’t 20-30 years ago. Your best bet is to not wear the scent on your skin and it will be as close as possible to what you remember, fact is even a persons palette will change over time just like our tastes for foods, hearing, eyesight and so on.

I can’t find it anywhere but Walmart and Target, or at least those are the two I would trust the most of the SHORT list I can find. Even the Giorgio website will tell you the story but it’s not offered for sale. The bottom of the page says “© 2012 EA Fragrances Co.” EA is Elizabeth Arden which isn’t surprising, Arden owns quite a few rights to different fragrances. I also looked into the official story on Wikipedia, please keep in mind that fragrance is normally a totally different business than the clothing. My point being that Wikipedia says that Giorgio is owned by Avon presently but that doesn’t mean anything about the fragrances, they are distributed by Elizabeth Arden.

If by chance you get to travel and need proof that the “original” formula would/n’t work on your skin if you found it, you can always find every fragrance ever created at the fragrance museum, https://fragrancehelp.net/osmotheque/.
I hope this helps your understanding of the issue and I hope you find some happiness in your fragrance journey.
    Samuel

I know Bob Aliano was the nose for Giorgio Red Fragrance. I have worn it since 1989. I know the fragrance has been changed and smells like bug spray, with no staying power, thank God. I need my “RED” and have bought at least 15 bottles trying to find one of the original and have failed. Who bought the formula and are they going to sell it under a different name and or brand? I am desperate for my signature fragrance. Everyone knows me by that smell. I went in a perfume store and tried on every fragrance, to no avail. Nothing
    compares to my “RED”.
    PLEASE HELP,
    Janet Valenti
